Once again, Millstream wins at the North American Beer Awards. This competition is held at the Mountain Brewers Festival every June. This year it seem more competitive than ever. We received a Bronze medal for our Schild Brau Amber in the Vienna Lager Category. This would be the fourth year in a row we have medaled in that category.. we are being very consistent!

I really think this competition is excellent and more legitamate than some of the ‘pay to play’ competition you see in major publications. The do the hard work for much less than other competitions and yet achieve results very similar to the GABF (the gold standard fo brewing competitions). Cheers and thanks to the hard working folks at the Mountain brewers fest!

The Warsh Pail Ale has been released and is getting rave reviews. We have sort of tweaked the recipe every year over the last few years… but I would say that now it is truly settled. Hop heads, enjoy!

If you’ll be attending the Iowa City Arts Festival this weekend, look for our root beer, this year it should be available near the bottled water. If you need a beer, be sure to make a stop at the Dublin Underground.

Travis from Cedar Brewing stopped by the brewery today with sample of his latest batch of pale ale. I have to say, if you guys have not been over there lately, you should reconsider, he is really putting out some fine brews!

We had great weather out here in Amana for Maifest. If you let the weatherman scare you away with threats of rain.. you missed out! The party time band played polka and much beer was consumed in the sunny warm weather.

Our ’special’ keg was tapped at 12:45 and completely consumed by 3pm. Everyone seemed to agree that the extra crystal hops made the beer delicious. We raised over 350$ for the Home Ties program for the Iowa City 4C’s.

On of our fan’s Dave Needham, was having fun with his Nikon D70. So I present to you Maifest photo montage courtesy of him:

In other news, our old Assistant Brewer, Kevin Buckley, has moved on. He is starting this week as the head brewer at Govners Pub in Lake in the Hills IL (a suburb somewhere northwest of barrington). Congrats Buckley!

In his place we have Austin Zaletel. He is also the saxophone player in a local band, Euphorquestra. Welcome to the team Austin!

We also have a new sales lady in the salesroom, Kathie. Kathie is an Amana local and a great addition to our team.

We still have plenty of Maifest in bottles, but our keg supply is getting pretty low. Next up, look for our Pale ale coming out very soon!

A fabulous time was had by all at the 15th Annual Greater Peoria Area’s Jaycees International Beer Festival. There were 56 booths with beers from all over the globe. And Eric and Aaron were there to represent us at Millstream.

Here they are setting up the booth on Friday evening.

And then Ready for Business.

Of course Eric and Aaron had to test the New Windmill Wheat, John’s Grocery White Ale, Schild Brau, and Maifest beers to make sure they were properly chilled.

The Mike and Carrie Show, a local duet with a large local following did acoustic versions of many 80s hits and had the audience swaying with enthusiasm. Later on we met this couple Brittany and Brett from CR who were big fans of our beers.

Saturday, Millstream was helped by Lou and Deb, the hard working couple kept the first wave of beer drinker’s mugs full.

They were challenged by this family of beer drinkers who came well prepared; these sisters were assigned to bring back beer for the whole family with their dad’s great invention of the beer fest sampler tray. Dad was off relaxing with a portable table and chairs sending the children to forage. We never met this man, but liked his style.

Later in the afternoon, the second group of eager volunteers arrived at the Millstream Booth. Craig, Megan and Jean, three happy go lucky graduates from Northwestern University in Evanston Illinois. Megan and Jean in particular have degrees in Chemical Engineering and were able to understand Brew master Aarons ramblings on the properties of Noble Gasses and the laws of physics in relation to the draft dispense of beer. They were incredibly peppy and stayed an hour after their shift was over, keeping those glasses full. We at Millstream lift our mugs to them and say “Hoch soll er Lieber!”

Lastly there was John S Rhodell, a famous local, brewer, with his Scotland Strongman and parade of bagpipes. This man carried a keg over his shoulder for a distance of greater than 100 yards and at the end of the parade, he lifted the full 15.5 gallon keg over his head before tapping it. Again at Millstream our hats are off to you, as we say, “Einer starker Mensch!” And wish that we had someone at our brewery to challenge them in a Keg hauling contest.
