White Ale Wins at the NABA

Filed under: Uncategorized — Aaron @ 5:47 am

I’m proud to announce that we have won a Silver Medal for the John’s Generations White Ale at the North American Brewers Awards. You can see the results here. I’m assuming that the “Blue Mountain” beer that took first place is a misspelling of Blue Moon, since it is made by Coors. I have plenty of respect for that beer, it does a good job of ‘educating’ people about the style. I have to wonder if maybe they made a special batch for the competition though…

We didn’t place with any of our other beers. The Schild Brau is a little surprising, but maybe I should have placed it in the Marzen/Ocktoberfest Category instead of the Vienna lager category. *sigh* It really fits inbetween the categories!

We are quite thrilled two have taken a silver! Those of you who live in Des Moines can go try this wonderful beer at the Red Monk, a new belgian beer bar that has opened up above the Royal Mile in downtown Des Moines. These are the same guys who own the German themed Essen Haus. Tell them how much you love Millstream, and the John’s White Ale in particular. We hope that we gain their respect from this tap, and get taps at the rest of their beer themed establishments.

Today was one of the first hot days in the brewhouse… so summer is here! It only reached 99 Degrees though, so it wasn’t too bad. But the first hot day always zaps the energy out of me as I re-acclimate to the temperature. So I will keep this post short and get back to brewing Schild Brau.
