Spring Weather

Filed under: Uncategorized — Aaron @ 4:35 am

Ahh its finally here. The nice spring weather and tourists it brings. Its really nice to hear people talking and drinking and having a good time in our beer garten again.

I try to keep this page updated but sometimes I get behind. Let me recap what has been happening around the brewery this week.

Growlers are in. That right, you can buy a growler and fill it up for 9 dollars. We are doing this after many requests that we have had since the closing of Stone City. This is much better deal on our beer than either buying a six pack or a liter bottle. It also is a more environmentally friendly to get our beer if you live locally. The only downside is that you need to drink the growler in a few days, or it may go flat and lose its flavor.

Madison Bus Trip We are carrying on with the Tradition of scheduling a bus to take people up to the Great Taste of the Midwest in Madison. Its August 14th this year, and is the largest beer fest in the midwest. The number of tickets has been capped at 6000 for many years, and every year the tickets sell out faster. Last year I believe they sold out in a week. We need to know if you are going by April 20th. The bus will pickup from here and John’s Grocery in Iowa City. Tickets will be 50$ per person, and include the bus ride and free beer on the bus. Make your reservation today by calling Teresa at 319 622 3672, or emailing the brewery.

Beer Dinner at the Motley Cow On April 20th I will be hosting a Millstream Beer dinner at the Motley Cow Cafe (in Iowa City, around the corner from John’s Grocery) with the help of John’s Grocery. I’m not sure of the menu at the moment, but the beer list will be Wheat, Schild Brau, Maifest, Stout, and White Ale. You will be able to make reservations online at the John’s Grocery Website soon.

Maifest Speaking of Maifest, I tried our batch today and it was delicious! It is cold lagering right now in our cellar. It will most definately be out soon. April 17th is looking to be the most auspicious bottling date. :)

And lastly I just got back from a personal vacation in Alberquerque, New Mexico.
I went to El Vicinio brewery and I have to say if you are ever there, you must get to their brewery and try their excellent beer. The brewers were very friendly and showed me around. They have a tasty Vienna lager, a little lighter than our Schild Brau. I personally enjoyed their Wet Mountain Pale ale. It had a very nice cascade hop finish. I also went to Blue Corn Cafe Brewpub, Turtle Mountain brewpub, and tried a Santa Fe Pale ale. Not one bad beer in the whole bunch. It seems that Alberquerque’s beer scene is doing very well!

Here is me enjoying a beer at El Vicinio’s tasting room:
